A Letter to My Children

Image
I stumbled upon a letter I wrote to both of you almost ten years ago. It reminded me of where we were then, and how far we’ve come. I’m sharing it now because I feel it’s time to revisit those words... Hear me when I say this: I’ve been through a lot in my life, but not nearly as much as many others. Still, through everything, I have found love—deep, genuine love—because of you both. I fell in love in life, but I also fell in love with you. You are my greatest gifts. But here’s the truth: I am still figuring myself out. There are days I feel lost, days I feel unhappy with how certain parts of my life turned out. I still don’t know what hobbies truly belong to me, what passions make me who I am as an individual. My world revolves around you now, and I wouldn’t change that. But because of that, my own life—my dreams, my identity—often sits on the sidelines. You two have always been more important. Now that you’re old enough to love, to fall in love, and to be loved in return, I want to s...

✨ The Future of Fordham’s Veteran & Military Family Center Looks Bright ✨

✨ The Future of Fordham’s Veteran & Military Family Center Looks Bright ✨ Big news— we’ve just been featured in the Fordham Ram !  As an Army veteran, veteran spouse, and now Operations Manager for the soon-to-be renovated Veteran and Military Family Center at Rose Hill, this work is more than just a role—it’s a full-circle moment. Grief and responsibility pulled me away from school, and I eventually stopped attending, losing touch with the university. I kept telling myself, “I’ll come back soon.” But nearly a decade passed before I did. When I finally returned, it was with the encouragement of my husband and the support of the same dean I had known years before. Through a special orientation for military-connected students, I discovered the Veteran Center at Lincoln Center in Manhattan—and everything changed. ...

Finding Joy in the Work You Do

“I'm excited to go to work tomorrow.” That’s what I told my husband today while chatting on my commute home. He stopped me mid-story and said, “I don’t think I’ve ever heard you say that before.” And he’s right. I’ve enjoyed roles in the past, but this is the first time I’ve felt this level of energy about what I’m doing. The difference? ✨ I get to build authentic relationships and connections ✨ I have the chance to create events that bring people together ✨ I feel trusted, supported, and empowered ✨ The work aligns with my core values ✨ I get to design spaces that are both welcoming and meaningful ✨ I have the opportunity to assist and advocate for military-connected students That moment made me reflect on my own journey. There was a time when I felt like I was simply going through the motions—no real passion, no spark, just meeting expectations. It wasn’t until I made intentional changes in how I approached my work and shaped the environment around me that I began to wake u...
